Question

trombone
I have an old silver trombone made by the Boston Musical Instrument Company, and I'd like to know more about it. It has engravings of L-P, and 22115 on the bell. It has no bell or slide lock on it.

Answer
The Boston Musical Instrument Manufactory was formed in 1869 with the merger of two of the most respected brass instrument makers from the Civil War period; Graves & Co. and E. G. Wright & Co. The firm produced high quality brass instruments

In 1913, the company reorganized under the name of "Boston Musical Instrument Company".  It was after this that your horn was made in about 1915.  In 1919 the company was bought out by the Cundy-Bettoney Co.

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
