Antique Musical Instruments/Trombone brand

Question
What brand might a trombone be if purchased "reconditioned" in the mid-fifties and has a number 236045 on the slide but no other information can be found??
Thank you.

Answer
Jack,

That is sort of like trying to determine the model of a car from its rear wheel.

All you can eliminate would be the companies that started after the 50's, those that didn't use serial numbers, and those that didn't make that many horns.

But without other engravings, it is probably a stencil horn intended to have some dealer's name marked on it.

The slide and the bell section may not even be from the same horn.

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
