Antique Musical Instruments/1920's Knabe Baby Grand

Question
Hello Todd,

I was wondering if I could get your opinion on something. I have the opportunity to purchase a Knabe baby grand from the 1920's for $1,000.00. I know it is difficult to ask the question of "is it worth it" without seeing any pictures but have been told that it might need some work (I assume new strings, hammers, pins etc) basically I was wondering if this would be an investment or something to pass on...Thank you again!

Answer
Hi,
Thank you for using allexperts.  In regards to the Knabe piano, if it was built in 1920 that is a very good vintage but if its all original its probably going to need a lot of work.  It could cost up to $10,000 just to restore the mechanics on the piano.  It would be worth it but you have to ask whether you are able to make that type of investment.  We also have Knabe pianos for sale that I may be able to give you a better deal on.  You can view our inventory at the following link:  http://www.lindebladpiano.com/gallery.asp
