Antique Musical Instruments/Buescher

Question
I have a Buescher Cornet/Trumpet? that was given to me by my Dad and am looking for more info on it. Below the stamp for the #2 valve is "LP" and below that is the symbol for "Truetone".  At the bottom of the valve is the serial number is 36966 and below that the number 15 is stamped. My son is interested in learning to play and am also wondering how this would work for a beginner. Would you also have any recommendations where I could get it  looked at?  I do know it needs a little work to make it fully functional.  Thanks

Answer
That's a very old horn.  One of the issues with getting kids to play an instrument is that often they want to to look like the kid sitting next to him.  Obviously, this horn is going to look different.  It almost certainly will need some attention, but was - at least originally - a good horn.  But is was made in 1917.

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
