Antique Musical Instruments/Gautrot Breveto

Question
I have been given an old brass cornet with Gautrot Breveto on the bell plus below the words a small oval shape with an anchor in it and the letters E (but rounded) and A on either sides of the anchor

It has no other inscriptions.

I have searched the net and found various pictures but none that match it.

The main tube starting from the mouthpiece is a back to front S (with the mouthpiece on the left) rather than any of the shapes I have found on the net.

I am wondering what date it might be?

thanks Neil

Answer
Neil,

It sounds like you are describing a cornet, like this Gautrot:  http://www.horn-u-copia.net/instruments/Gautrot/Gautrot-cornet-c-.jpg

It has some interesting markings on it, but I'm not sure how to interpret them without a closer look at it.

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
