Antique Musical Instruments/Bell Upright Piano

Question
QUESTION: Could you please give me an estimate on an upright piano, made by the Bell Piano and Organ Co. in Guelph. It was built in 1902. It has plaques specifying "illimitable repeating action" and "orchestral attachment and practice clavier". It appears to be in excellent condition. The bench does not match.
ANSWER: Hi,
Thank you for using allexperts.
In our current economic and musical climate, we estimate the value of your piano to be at around $500.

QUESTION: Thanks very much for your quick response. However, I'm quite shocked at the low estimate. The piano isn't mine. It belongs to a friend, but we were thinking that it would be some "thousands" of dollars (how many we didn't know). Is your low estimate mostly due to the economic climate? I'm not sure what you mean by "musical climate".
Thanks again.
AnswerHi,
Thank you for using allexperts.
The economic climate is the main driver of that estimate. Music climate just refers to the massive drop in music education and appreciation over the last 40-50 years. Piano's are not an "every home" item as they used to be.
