Question
looking at buying an buescher alto sax serial number 234109. was this a good sax? I have some are tuned different than todays so they are no good to play in todays band . and anything else you can tell me about this would be of great help. I currently play a selmer mark 7 alto

Answer
It dates to 1927, so it is still possible that it might be high pitch, but it is most likely that it is low (modern) pitch.  Buescher made excellent instruments.  It is a different concept in saxophones than your Selmer.   So, it won't lock into notes like you are used to.

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
