Antique Musical Instruments/Harry Pedler cornet

Question
I purchased a cornet engraved "American Triumph, made by Harry Pedler and Sons,Elkhart Ind." Serial #86540. The dealer had sold off the mouthpiece seperately, so I have been using a near-fit cheap mouthpiece which I had filed down a hair. ...Where can I get an original or decent fit mouthpiece, and is there any hope of finding out the manufacture date or approximate vintage of this instrument? (I have had no luck with any website so far. This is a great site by the way!!

Answer
The company started using that name in 1937, and was sold to Selmer in 1958.  I believe the company stopped manufacturing before in the 1950s that but I don't have a date.

The best place to find a mouthpiece would be on ebay.  Of course you could also have one custom made.

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
