Question
I played a Reynolds Contempera in High School from 79-83. Have you come across any Reynolds French Horns that were made in Elkhorn, Wisconsin? Mine had Elkhorn, Wisconsin on the bell and had a .472 bore. Kerry Turner played the same Reynolds when he attended Baylor University. Unfortunatly he sold it in Germany were he now lives because the Germans did not like the large sound it produced. I have not been able to verify or find any other Reynolds French Horns That were built in Elkhorn, Wisconsin.

Answer
Just speculation, but during the 60's in the RMC years, a lot of the production was contracted out.  So that is one possibility.  Might it be possible that you remember Elkhorn, when maybe it was really Elkhart?  I only ask because the two towns are often confused.

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
