QuestionQUESTION: Hi!
I just purchased a George Steck & Co. New York spinet-style
piano from a woman today and she says it's around 50 years
old. She said that it was purchased at a Jenkins Music
Company in Kansas City, after being used as a show piano for
the Starlight Theatre. I love this story and was wondering
if you could help me find out what year, exactly, this piano
may have been made and if there's any truth to her story.
The serial number (I believe) is 159073. I appreciate your
help!
ANSWER: Hi,
Thank you for using allexperts. Your George Steck & Co. piano, serial #159073 was built in 1953.
Sincerely,

QUESTION: Thank you for that, it's neat to know... I don't suppose there
is a way to know WHERE it was built as well?
AnswerSteck & Co., George, Est. 1857, by George Steck, of Cassel, Germany, at 12th Street and Third Avenue. In 1859 the company moved to Walker St. in New York. All new "Scales" and innovations were introduced by George Steck personally. George Steck passed away in 1897 and the company incorporated. In 1904 they became part of the Aeolian Company and in 1932 Aeolian American Company. Became part of Mason & Hamlin Corporation before they stopped production in 1994. In April of 1996 Kirk and Gary Burgett, owners of Music Systems Research bought the assets of Mason & Hamlin and announced plans to continue production of some piano names.
