Antique Musical Instruments/York & Son Cornet

Question
I purchased an old cornet at a garage sale.  It is silver and says "York & Son" with the number "819" below it.  Can you provide any history or age on this cornet.  I have tried to do some research, but didn't come up with anything.  Any help would be appreciated.

Answer
I would like to get more information from you.  We are trying to construct a serial number list for York instruments, and this horn would be the 5th oldest that we have turned up so far.

If it is possible, could you send pictures to me at Kenton@punxypa.com?

Additionally, it would be the highest numbered horn with 'and Son' on it.  He soon started using 'and Sons'.  It probably dates to 1899.

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
