Question
I have a Rudy Muck cornet purchased 1940 from NYC factory. Interviewed Mr. Muck 1950 but no longer have the information. Been told that in Muck's later years he put his mark on instruments made by others. My second valve is engraved 2 over 183. Please tell me what you know about the Muck company.  Thank you.

Answer
Rudy Muck was a German engineer, mouthpiece builder who played in New York City in the Twenties.  He began to build trumpets in 1936.  He had a small repair and brassworks shop down the street from the Bronx Bach factory. It is rumored, he built the horns with NY Bach parts.

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
