Question
since my piano is outside of your expertise and I have looked almost every where else online that I could think of could you give me an idea of where else I could go to look up this serial number such as a book or maybe a website that does extensive research at a cost?

Answer
I can only answer from my experience with brass instrument manufacturers.  Generally, the companies used the serial numbers just to track the instrument through production, and didn't intend for them be a historical record.  Many of the serial number lists that exist were collected by interested individuals that re-compiled them into a rough way of dating.  Most serial number lists are not drawn from company records.

Additionall, when companies went out of business, their records were generally destroyed.

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
