Question
I just purchased a Holton trombone for our son,but the seller couldn't give me much info. about it. I'm hoping you can help. It's a model TR603 with a serial number of 1003 (at leased that's the number that's stamped directly under the model number). The mouthpiece is stamped Holton 47. Any info would be helpful.   Thank You

Answer
In 1962, the Holton Company was sold to Leblanc which merged Leblanc's woodwinds with the Holton's brass. Now Holton is part of Steinway's Conn-Selmer, Inc.

The TR603 is a more modern horn, and was made after Holton ceased to be an independent company.  The Holton serial numbers lists are based on the lists when Holton was an independent company.

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
