Question
I've read some of your other answers and you, of anyone, would have the information I'm looking for.
I have acquired an old trumpet with what looks like ODELL decoratively inscribed on the bell.  A serial number of 7309 is stamped on the middle valve.  Have you any information regarding such an instrument?
Thanks in advance.

Answer
Thompson and Odell were in business from 1874-1900 as a music store and publishing business.

The Standard Band Instrument Company was started in 1884 by Thompson & Odell as the Brasswind branch using stock and equipment previously owned by Quinby. Only a few of the instrument they made were labeled Thompson and Odell. Most were Standard Band Instrument Co.

Their publishing business was bought out by Fischer in 1900, and the instrument production was bought out by Vega in 1909.

Then Vega used Odell as a brand name up to about 1920.

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
