Antique Musical Instruments/vintage cornet

Question
Good morning from chilly Minnesota,  I am going through my late father's estate and have come across a Boston Musical Instrument Company silver colored cornet.  The serial number is 24361 and it is in excellent condition with case and accessories.  I'm pretty good at data mining but I've come up short on any info regarding age and desirability.  I am a relatively competent Ebayer but little archived info seems available.  I'm not asking a value but is Ebay usually a pretty good way to go with a long auction time? Your thoughts are greatly appreciated.  Cheers  Jay

Answer
And hello from a warming up Pennsylvania.

The Boston company was respected for the quality of their instruments.  Boston Musical Instrument Manufactory was formed in 1869 from the joining of Graves & Co. and E. G. Wright & Co. The firm produced high quality brass instruments

In 1913, the company reorganized under the name of "Boston Musical Instrument Company," and in 1919 it was bought by the Cundy-Bettoney Co.

Your horn dates to 1919.

The week long eBay auctions, in my opinion, seem to do the best.  Long enough that any serious buyers will have found it, and short enough that it maintains their interest.

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
