Answer
Sometimes, I think I have answered questions, only to realize that I thought about the answer in my mind, but never got beyond that.

So, for the sake of discussion, I'm going to assume that if it is an alto trombone, it is an Eb alto trombone.  If so, then the length of the tubing from the mouthpipe to the bell would be approximately 82 inches, as compared with the Bb tenor trombone which would be about 106 inches.

Joseph Higham established his business in 1842. He was succeeded by his son-in-law Peter Robinson in 1883, who sold out in 1911. In 1923 Mayers and Harrison became the proprietors.

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
