Antique Musical Instruments/Antique trumpet

Question
I checked your answer (3/1/2007) regarding a Hager Musical Instrument-Co. trumpet. I have a similar trumpet as far as features and finish, however made somewhat later.  S/n on 2nd valve is 92571 and 5822 on rotary valve. You did not mention a manufacture date?  Seller is claiming to be from Civil War era.  I think not, but cannot verify.  Do you have a s/n list or approximate date of manufacture?

Answer
Nick Hagar was a dealer not a maker, and specialized in student instruments - a 20th century activity.

The serial  number would have no meaning as far as dating the instrument.  But suffice it to say it would not date to the 1860s.  Civil War vintage makers did not use serial numbers.

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
