Antique Musical Instruments/Indiana Trombone

Question
We have a customer that has brought in a trombrone which says The Indiana as the model and then Elkhart, Ind  USA

I am sure this is 1950-1960 vintage and could be from several factories in the Elkhart area...any ideas?

Thanks

J

Answer
I believe I have also had private conversation with your customer.  And, I believe you may have proposed Blessing as possible maker, and that would certainly be a reasonable possibility.  On the other hand, you may not be able to take the Elkhart part of the label literally, it may only mean that the company was located there, not that the instruments was necessarily made there.

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
