Antique Musical Instruments/J&C Fischer

QuestionQUESTION: I have a J&C Fischer upright piano. It is in excellent condition and non of the ivory keys are chipped or cracked. The serial number is 62195. I'm trying to find out as much information on this piano as I can. I acquired it just outside Boston, MA years ago. Inside the cabinet it looks like it says something like GRAND ??? UPRIGHT, but we can't tell, the middle word looks like it starts with an 'S'
Any and all information would be appreciated, like the year made, the value, etc.
ANSWER: Hi,
Thank you for using allexperts.
Your piano was manufactured in 1880. Judging by the size of the piano would help me assess the value. Is the piano an upright or a grand piano.
Refer to this guide to help.

Once I have more information I would be happy to help.

QUESTION: I have attached a picture to hopefully help you in your assessment. As you can see it is an upright. We were told that the lowest 2 and highest 2 keys were purposely left off to make it a smaller footprint to fit in apartments during the time frame that it was made. I don't know how true that is. I am surprised that it is that old, 1880! Wow, now the question, what is it's worth?
ANSWER: Hi,
Thanks again for using allexperts.
In our current economic and musical climate, we estimate the value of your piano to be at around $500-1000. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us.

QUESTION: One last question: my wife's great grandfather was a cabinet maker and worked at the Piano Works in East Rochester. While I've read that there was a fire, is there any way to trace who the cabinet maker was for this piano? We thought it would be a hoot to find out that he did the woodwork for this piano.
Again, that you for all the info you have supplied!
AnswerHi,
Thanks again for using allexperts.
No, sorry I was not able to find out anything about who the cabinet maker was, the best advice I would give is to try to talk directly to J&C Fischer to get an answer. Hope this is helpful.
