Question
I have a 1866 trumpet made in Paris by A.LECOMTE for D.C.HALL of Boston;still in the ordinal box with mouthpiece. Please tell me any thing you can about this interment,I have searched and can find nothing.

Answer
After working for Gautrot, Lecomte established his company as brass makers in 1859, and from 1860 made saxhorns, mostly for export. The company was merged with Massin & Thibouville in 1889

DC Hall had an independent company from 1862-5, before merging with others, and again as an independent company from 1876-1880.  It was during this later period, he was a dealer rather than a maker, and I suspect your instrument would date to that period.

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
