Hello Kenton, I have a silver coloured Trombone with quite alot of engraving on it (flowers etc) It also says on it "Artists Perfected" with a bird on top of a circle (or is it the globe?)underneath is: HAWKES & SON makers Denman Street Picadilly Circus London.W. The number stamped below that is 62205. Having looked at hornucopia I cannot find this number (though it could fall in to a Boosey and Hawkes category for 1930) I know nothing about this instrument & would like any information possible and thank you in advance.Bev - secretary of Holbeach Town Band
Answer Bev,
I concur with your speculation that it probably dates to the 1930-ish period. I've not seen examples of that model name before. It appears that Hawkes had a set of model names, and Boosey had a set of names - both different and neither list survived the merger. It is not something that I had considered before, but it would be interesting to dig a little deeper into the model names they used and what significance they had.
Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments.
I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments.
1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site.
2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.
Experience
I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
