Question
I was given a Velvet Tone horn,I can't find any info about a Velvet Tone cornet or trumpet only info is on a metal student clarinet made in Italy which I found on this site.Stamped on the bell is the name Velvet Tone Made in America on the center valve is the numbers 79104.  Can you give me a web site that may help me ID this instrument and its mfg. date. thanks Scott

Answer
I've seen a Velvetone (all one word) sousaphone.  It looks to be a typical configuration, possibly a stenciled Pan American.  I'd suggest comparing yours with Pan Americans on either
http://Horn-u-copia.net or http://www.xs4all.nl/~cderksen/ and see if they match up.

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
