Question
Boston musical instruments, silver trombone, serial #17959, made for the U.S.Navy... a very nice playable instrument... just curious about it's history???... thank you

Answer
Boston Musical Instrument Manufactory was formed in 1869 from the joining of craftsmen from the Graves & Co. and E. G. Wright & Copanies, a couple of the finest Civil War vintage US makers.  By 1873, the principals were: Henry Esbach, Louis Hartman and W.G. Reed. The firm produced high quality brass instruments

Yours should date to around 1907.

So, hey, dummy, do your homework.  If you had checked you would have seen that the WEB site you are referencing is mine.  Seems like I ought to be able to quote myself.

You asked a general question and got a general answer.

I get very tired of people thinking that I should be able to read their mind and not only know what they already know and therefore not repeat it but also be able to intuit what they would like to know.

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
