Antique Musical Instruments/Antique Coronet

Question
QUESTION: I have a antique Coronet in an old Coronet case from the Boston Music Company.  The Coronet is totally plated with Sterling Silver.  It is engraved totally with the exception of space on the bell. I have a mouth piece dated 1896 and 2 mouthpiece extensions.  In addition I have a music holder for the instrument and it is also engraved.  There is no name engraved on the instrument.  The instrument plays very well and is in fine condition.  All valves and slides operate smoothly.  I am looking for an Identity, value, and a potential date of manufacture of this instrument.  I understand that the Boston Music Company is no longer in existence.  I would appreciate any help you may be able to provide.

ANSWER: When you say that there is no name engraved on the instrument, do you mean that it does not say Boston . . . on it?

QUESTION: Kenton,
Yes that is correct.   There is no Manufacture's name on the instrument at all.  I have looked everywhere on the horn with a fine toothed comb and found nothing.

Answer
In that case, I would suspect that it is much more likely it was an import that was intended to be engraved with the name of a dealer.

However, here are some examples of Boston Cornets,

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
