Question
I have a trumpet played by my uncle when he was a young person. He was 72 when he died in 1991. The trumpet has the following "markings": C. Bruno and Son, Inc.; Henry Pource LLC Sole agents. I'm wondering whether you can give me an idea of how old it might be and where it was made. Many thanks.
  Richard Knapp in Reston, Virginia

Answer
The Bruno Company was established in New York. In 1868, the Company used C. Bruno and Son as its name.

After the turn of the 20th Century, the company began using trade names including Henry Pourcelle, Paris.

It is unknown who the actual maker was.

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
