Question
I am curious to find out more about a Holton trumpet that has been handed down to me. The second valve has stamped on it Frank Holton & Co. Elkhorn WIS. andthe serial number 72922. It is a silver trumpet with a leaf motif engraving on the bell also engraved Made by Frank Holton & CO Elkhorn WI. The case is elongated and lined with green velvet. There is a brass arm that lockd the mouthpiece into it's place. There is a small engraved plaque on the to of the case with the Frank Holton name and a circle with a trombme trumpet and bass drum in the center.

Thanks,

Robert

Answer
Your horn dates to 1921.  You might find this price list from 1926 interesting:  http://www.horn-u-copia.net/books/holton-price-list-1926.pdf

Back then Holton simply made a trumpet, there weren't models yet.  The only variation would be the different choices for finish.

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
