Question
my trombone has f e olds and son imprint but nothing to tell me the date    thease are numbers i have found on it  7790      m8035    L
                                    ML
HAS VERY NICE ENGRAVINGS ON HORN    AN YOU TELL ME ABOUT THIS HORN MEASURES 7.5 ACROSS END

Answer
I'm assuming that one number is on the slide section and one is on the bell section.  I believe that it therefore dates to the early 1930s.  As to which model, I suspect it may be the LM7.5, but you may want to check it against my model chart.  http://www.horn-u-copia.net/Reference/Productline.php?maker=Olds&instrument=Trom...

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
