Antique Musical Instruments/Upright Alto Horn

Question
I have a silver (at least silver finish) upright Alto Horn. It is a USA Line by Grand Rapids Band Instrument Company and sold by Marsh-Marley Co. Dallas, Texas.  The serial number (number on middle valve) is 20723.  Can you provide the year made and how I might track down more information on this instrument.  I have not had much success trying to find information on the maker.

Answer
Grand Rapids was a sister company to York Instrument Company.  The horns came out of the same factory, but unfortunately, they used different serial number sequences, so there is no good way of dating the instruments.

Here is my page on York/Grand Rapids.

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
