Antique Musical Instruments/Lyons Emperor Sousaphone

Question
Greetings,

Recently acquired a cosmetically challenged but playable EEb Sousaphone with "Lyons Emperor" and  "The Lyons Band Instrument Company of Chicago" inscribed on the bell. I understand that Lyons sold band instruments, but did they manufacture their own horns? If not, who might have made "Lyons Emperor"  and approx what vintage. I do not see a serial number.
Horn is large bore for an Eb and has beautiful tone.
thank you

Answer
It appears that it is likely that Lyons purchased from a variety of makers.  But you might be able to track it down by 'rounding up the usual suspects.'  I would recommend first comparing features with Pan American models.  http://www.horn-u-copia.net/catalog.shtml

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
