Antique Musical Instruments/Old Trumpet

Question
I have an old J.W. York & Sons trumpet with a serial number of 43684. I believe it was made in 1915 but I'm not quite sure. It also has a switch on the side with a "960S" inscribed on it that switches it from B flat to A with a 90 degree turn. I have clear understanding from my grandmother that it was played by my great great uncle. It also has 2, 1 inch long mouthpiece extensions. I need to know what I would have to do to it if I am looking to sell it. Could I send you pictures of it?

Answer
I would also estimate it at 1915.  I suspect that it may be a cornet.  I think you will probably do best by selling it on eBay.  You have the largest audience there.  You probably don't need to anything to the instrument before selling it.  (the amount it appreciates in value would probably less than the cost of the repairs.) You simply need to take clear pictures of it, so that potential buyers can assess it.

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
