Question
I HAVE A BOHLAND & FUCH CORNET. MODEL COURTOIS.
i THINK IT WAS MADE IN LATE 1800'S.
CAN YOU TELL ME IF IT MIGHT BE WORTH SOMETHING
AND IF THERE IS ANY MARKET FOR IT ?

                    THANK YOU,   PETE  2-23-06

Answer
Hi Pete,

That is interesting marking. Courtois is a maker and Bohland and Fuchs is a maker.  That would  be something like a Ford Model Dodge!

The Bohland and Fuchs instruments don't generally command a lot of value, mostly based on historical reputation not their relative quality.  But, there are exceptions.

If you wanted to take some pictures, I MIGHT be able to give you a better idea of what you have.  OR, if you are planning on selling it, by putting it on eBay, the collectors watch pretty closely so if it has some value, they will go after it.

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
