Antique Musical Instruments/Actually about a saxaphone and flute

Question
I am looking for information on two brands. A flute under the label
Heiner (low serial #) and a saxaphone under the label of "American
Leader - Made in Italy. How would I find information on these
instruments. I am wondering if it is sensible to get the sax re-
padded when I don't know anything about it. Thanks for any
information or leads.

Answer
I have seen reference to American Leader, but I don't know who actually made them. And/or who marketed them.

And I don't find a Heiner company.  There is a Heinel, however.

Tough decision on whether to repad.  If they aren't too bad, maybe you could do just a few pads done to get it in playing condidion and then get the instrument further tested to see what its quality is.

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
