Antique Musical Instruments/Alexandre Trumpet....

Question
My grandmother gave me an Alexandre trumpet made in U.S.A. and I can find no info. It is in oringinal case but no Brand anywhere on case. It has fancy leaf-like engravings on each side of horn with the name engraved down the middle of leafs; appears to have dual spit valves, three opal-topped keys with red felt pads; the only numbers are on valves, numbered 1,2,and 3 and the middle valve has 1001 on it. Is there any value to this? Thank-you

Answer
Donna,

I'm not certain what you might have there.  There supposedly was a company named Alexandre that made some instruments for HN White before White got into making cornets that were then stenciled.  It sounds like it might be a similar design.

I'm assuming it is a cornet, as I've never seen a trumpet with the split waterkey.

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
