Antique Musical Instruments/Antique Sax

Question
I have a 1918 sterling silver Frank Holton C-Melody saxophone in good condition that still plays very well.  Unfortunately I must part with it.  However, finding dealers & then finding ones who will not rip me off is very difficult.  Do you have any idea where I might start to move ahead with selling this item?

Answer
Hmm, I thought I answered this already.

Anyway, the C melody is an interesting instument and certainly collectable.  And, Holton made a good product.

If the instrument was mine and I was to sell it.  (Not likely, cause I have long wanted a C melody, but haven't the funds to justify the purchase of one.  So if it WAS mine, I wouldn't be selling it.  But anyway)

If I were to sell it, I would clean it up, take some nice detailed pictures.  Then I would put it on eBay.

I would set the starting price at the minimum I was willing to accept for it.  And, then allow eBay to determine the market.  There are enough folks that track instruments on eBay that the price that it goes for is generally at least fair, and sometimes surprisingly good.

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
