Antique Musical Instruments/Baritone

Question
My mom has a Baritone that seems to be old. I have not been able to find any info about it. However when she took it to a music store they said they would be more than happy to buy it from her. The only info I have or can find on it is Renown Sole distributors Dallas London.
I would appreciate any information you could give me.

Answer
Hi Patricia,

John Dallas and Sons were dealers at Clifton St. in London, starting in 1875.  I don't know who may have actually made the instrument.  That, in itself, wouldn't mean much in terms of value.  I'm assuming that the music store saw something in it that appealed to them, or they recognized as collectable.

If you wanted to send pictures, send them to kenton@punxypa.com and maybe I can see what they were seeing.

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
