Question
Hey, I have a question about my trumpet, actually a few I dont know how old my trumpet really is. my parents got it for me in middle school and they said that it was documented to be made in 1906. the trumpet has had better days but the scratches or little dents are not noticable untill up close. it is a conn and has a number at the bell that says 1050B do you think you might be able to help me find out how old it is and what it would be worth in good restored condition. thankyou I apprediate it, know one else has been able to help me?

Answer
Hi Brian,

I'm not sure about what would appear to be a model number.  1050B.  Conn generally labeled  his trumpets with a B to designate trumpets but thre is no 1050, that I know of.

If it was made in 1906, that may be because it was before he started using model numbers.

I think I would need to see pictures to have much of an idea of what it may be.

You may find pictures that could match up to it on the Conn Loyalist, or if you want a more interactive place you might want to try www.horn-u-copia.net.

As far as value is concerned, I think most collectors would be interested in getting it in is current condition.  They would then send it to their favorite restorer.  I don't think you will increase your profits by getting it restored first.

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
