Antique Musical Instruments/Besson Euphonium

Question
I have a besson euphonium that is at least 40 years old, the original owner tells me.  I can't pinpoint the exact date.  The serial number is 283-531

Answer
At one time there was a WEB site that posted more complete numbers but it has gone off line.  The chart that is currently available ends in 1952.  But, you may be able to estimate using several years to get how many instruments they were making per year and then calculate what year yours was made.  Here are some numbers. (I'll let you do the math.)

130,000 = 1944
135,000 = 1948
141,116 = 1952

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
