Question
Hi Kenton, I have a brass trumpet made by Couesnon & Cie, Paris,France. It has an emblem & underneath it reads Hors Concours, Member Du Jury. Below it reads Cournisseurs De L'ormee, 94. Rue Dangouleme, Paris, Chateau-Thierry.  The bottom has a small emblem with the # 27 inside.  Can you provide any info on its' origin, history, etc.  Thank you for any information you can provide.  Donna

Answer
Couesnon has been in business sinced 1827.  Your horn was made 100 years later in 1927.  In the early part of the 20th century, they had over 1000 employees, and their instruments were held in high regard.   But, by the late 20's, their business had dwindled.  Now the company is now a very small family owned business, called P.G.M.

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
