Question
QUESTION: I have had this trombone since about 1955 and only know that it was purchased used from a member of the local Philharmonic. Patent #1951267. It has totally art-deco shaping with curved slides and slanted supports. Silver & gold. I and others have never seen anything like. Can you give me clue as to it's age and it's usage.

ANSWER: From the information given, it is no older than 1934, for that is the date of the patents, which was for offset sleeves in slide.  If you have a serial number, we may be able to get a more definitive production date.

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: The body and small tuning slide have "206" and the main slide body has "Buescher True Tone" Reg. Pat. Office 31133(8 or 2) and underneath "LP" and under that "445". Any suggestions where I might find pictures or other documentation.

Thanks

Answer
It appears to date to approximately 1947.  It was the top of the line instrument.  It has a narrow bore, but more flare in the bell, which gives it a fuller sound than would be expected with a narrow bore horn.

I don't have pictures of this model.  If you would care to share pictures, I'd post them on www.horn-u-copia.net

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
