Question
Please provide any information that you are able to share in this forum about this instrument, particularly bore size, manufacturers history and any famous players that have used it.  Thanks, Frank

Answer
Buescher had previously worked for Conn-Dupont, but started his own independent company in as the Buescher Manufacturing Co. in 1894.  He changed the name in 1904 to Buescher Band Instrument Co., and then sold the company in 1916, though he remained as manager and engineer.

Your horn comes in here, it was made in 1919.

They merged with the Elkhart Band Instrument Co. in 1928, and in 1963, Selmer purchased the Buescher Band Instrument Company just as it was being closed for good. The actual purchase was by the Bundy Band Instrument Company, a subsidiary of H. & A. Selmer, Inc. The Buescher name and most of the lines were perpetuated by Selmer, but most believe that the Buescher models made by the Selmer Co. were not up the quality of the earlier versions.

You should be able to measure bore on the instrument, pull the second valve tuning slide and measure the inner tube of the slide (not the tubing going into the casing.  I don't believe the catalogs I've seen of that age list the bore.

We have talked about developing a list of what famous players played on, but haven't actually done it yet.

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
