Antique Musical Instruments/Bundy trumpet info.

Question
Mr. Scott,

I recently picked up an older looking Bundy trumpet at a local thrift store.  There is a "Geo M. Bundy Elkhart-Ind. USA" stencil on the bell.  The bell is noticable smaller than my Olds Bb trumpet and, although the pipes are the same length as a Bb, They seem more "compressed" or have less "finger-room" if you will.  Lastly the serial number is 122348.  Any information you can provide me with will be greatly appreciated.

Answer
It sounds like it is a style that is nick-named a pea-shooter.  It was simply a different configuration of the tubing.  I don't believe that they were of a smaller bore than other trumpets of that age, but you might want to check to see whether the bore is smaller.

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
