Antique Musical Instruments/C.G. Conn Sax

Question
Mr. Scott,
I have my mothers CG Conn saxophone in it's origional case with everything that origionally came with it. The serial number is 121782 and the instrument is in pretty good condition. According to the Conn website this number was made in 1923. My question is what type of value would this have? I see newer models on ebay and they range from fifty to eight hundred dollars. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
James.

Answer
James,

I don't really follow the prices of woodwinds, so I'm not sure of the answer to your question.  But, I believe that those old Conn saxes were respected instruments, and are collectable.  I can only suggest that you continue to do what you have been doing, continue to watch the complete auctions on eBay for instruments that closely match yours as possible.  Watch the completed ones because is isn't important what they were offered at, it is important they sold for.

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
