Antique Musical Instruments/CG Conn Worcester trumpet

Question
Hi, some time ago I was given a old trumpet that I used as decoration in my home studio.  Recently I began to try and learn more about its history.  It is silver plated and has CG CONN ELKHART IND. WORCESTER inscribed on the bell the serial # 60261 is stamped on it. From what I can gather from Internet sources it dates from pre 1900 which was quite a surprise! I am curious if this is correct, how rare is it,
is it worth restoring. Its in pretty good shape for its age but I haven't seen any of these on ebay (as you advise). Any info would be great!! Thanks so much for providing such a wonderful resource. Robert

Answer
In 1886 Conn purchased Fiske Plant in Worcester and labeled horns Elkhart and Worcester.   He phased out the Worcester plant in 1898, but kept it on the logo until 1900.

Yours dates to 1900.

Collectors do like the old Conns.  They do show up on eBay, they are not really rare, but still collectible.

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
