Question
Hello, My family gave me tis horn for my 63rd birthday, Straight bell .
Marked  Charles F Griebert Master model delux *** Paris 29

The man they got it from has had it for over 60 years, Is it worth a rebuild
and are their parts available?  Interested in it's history.  Thank you,

Alan Holcombe

Answer
That name is not listed in the references, nor have I come across one.  My first suspicion would be that it is a stencil, i.e. made by one company, but then engraved by a dealer with his own name.

It is very doubtful that there would be parts available, but often is not a big deal, depending on what is missing.  Tubing and bracing can be custom made fairly easily in most cases.  More difficult (read expensive) are things like valves.

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
