Antique Musical Instruments/Clarinet

Question
I am sorry, I know that your knowledge runs more towards brass instruments, but I was wondering if you know (or know someone who knows) anything about a clarinet I have been given recently.  I cannot read the serial #, but it is in a La Monte case, and has Rene Duval France engraved and also PLB France.  I have tried looking it up on clarinet sites, but no luck.  I would appreciate it if you might have some info, seeing as the instrument is in such disrepair that I do not know whether it is worth it to fix it.  Thanks!

Answer
Other than a passing reference in Langwill index to Rene Duval, I have no other information on the company.  But, that would seem to indicate that the brand was not well known and probably not highly valued.

Also, metal clarinets are generally not thought of highly by clarinet players.

The only metal clarinet I have, I made into a lamp.

I suspect it may not be worth repairing

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
