Antique Musical Instruments/Cleveland Baritone Horn

Question
I have a baritone horn with Ser # C-35045 stamped on the outside of the center valve. I know that pianos can be dated based on their serial number and manufacturer. Is it possible to date this instrument?
Thanks!

Answer
The original Cleveland company, started in 1920,  put a C on the beginning of their serial numbers, so it would appear that is what you have.  White bought Cleveland out in 1925.

So, if there is no reference to White on the horn, that would pretty much confirm that it is one of the originals, and would date it to between 1920-5.

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
