Question
My father recently died at the age of 88 and I have his coronet that he used in the Greek Army in the 40's....I would say the coronet is over 60 years old and has the following information on the plate:

Manufacture D'Instruments
De Musique
BDohland & Fuchs
Gr?slitx, Boheme.

Any information would be of interest.

Thank you.

Answer
Hi Andrea,

The Bohland and Fuchs company was a very productive company making instruments both under their own name and also provided instruments to other retailers to put their own name on them.

They along with several other companies made instruments in Graslitz Czechlovokia.  It seemed to be a specialty of the area.  In 1945, all these companies were nationalized as a cooperative by the Czech Republic under the name Amati.  The company was established in 1870.

So it has to be at least 60 years old.

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
