Question
Hello,
I have a Silver Coronet which is marked Lamoreaux Freres Artist's Tru. In the case it says Lamoreaux Freres Paris. The serial number is 10312, and the patent date is July 17, 1906. The coronet has a few additional tubes, and a Frank Holton Chicago #10 mouthpiece. What can you tell me about this including a suggestion of value, in average condition with case. Thanks for any help you can give!

Answer
Lamoreaux Freres is a tradename that was used for instruments sold by Sears.  There are no serial number lists to determine age for this brand.  But, the patent at least tells you that it is no older than 1906.  The additional tubes are probably to either change it from high to low pitch; or to change keys (or both).

In general, instruments sold by dealers rather than makers don't hold their value very well.

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
