Antique Musical Instruments/Euphonium

Question
While cleaning out an old house belonging to a deceased relative we found what we think is an old Euphonium in the attic.  The house built in the early 1800's was next to what once was an old opera house. We have been told that people perfoming at the opera stayed and practiced in the house that we were cleaning.  The "horn" appears to be made of copper, although it may be brass.  The only inscription that we can find on it is "France 1687". Do you think that it may be copper? And where can I take this to be appraised?
We are in central Pennsylvania.

Answer
Where in Central Pa.?  I'm in Punxsutawney.

I would think most likely Brass.  IF you have pictures, I might be able to tell more.  You can send them to Kenton@punxypa.com

Vickie,
I tried to respond to your email, but it bounced back as undeliverable.

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
